Things to Do in Brevard County This Weekend: 01/04 to 01/06
This weekend when family is starting to return back north and you’re looking for something to get out of the house and do, look no further than your own community.
All weekend long you can catch the Cirque Italia Water Circus. This is a big tented performance and tickets are available at varying prices depending on your seats. Remember to reserve ahead of time for ADA seats. This event will take place in Wickham Park, Melbourne.
At the Cocoa Village Playhouse will be the local favorite band, Hot Pink performing The Beatles Magical Mystery Show. Come celebrate the iconic music of the Beatles with the local band who sells out every show. The times vary, but the shows will be today and tomorrow.
Today, Friday, you can also catch the Free Movie Friday. This week at Sunflower House at the Merritt Square Mall they will be featuring The Equalizer 2. The showing will start at 1pm and they accept donations to keep the program running.
Over in the south part of the county is the Engineers Club for ages 5-18. This event begins at 3pm at the Franklin T. DeGroodt Library in Palm Bay. This event helps inspire and teach young minds on how to build their own machines and structures. This week will be all about bridges. Space is limited, so call ahead to register, 321-952-6317.
A little further north also beginning at 3pm and running through till 9pm will be the Viera Park Market and First Friday Food Truck Event. The food trucks arrive at 5pm, but the farmers market runs throughout the entire time. This event takes place at the Viera Regional Park.
Also today, Friday, is EGAD First Friday. Starting at 530pm enjoy this local community event where you join others strolling the walkable arts district and enjoys stops at shops and taverns.
The fifth Avenue Art Gallery in Melbourne is also hosting an opening reception for their collection of ‘Openings to the World.’ This was a challenge to the local artists of the community to create work with doors and windows as the theme. See what they created in this unique event starting at 530pm.
Looking for something to learn for the new year? There is a Ballroom beginner group class and dance party at 6:45 at the Melbourne Ballroom. All levels, ages, singles, couples, and beginners are welcome. The private class is included all for $30.
Then at the King Center, Jay Leno will be performing at 8pm. Leno travels around the US and abroad to perform these comical shows.
On Saturday, there are ways to get involved as well. Looking to start a new years resolution of giving back? There will be a volunteer orientation at Harmony Farms at 10am in Cocoa. No experience is necessary, but volunteers need to be 13 years of age.
Also on Saturday, in Melbourne is the Downtown Melbourne Farmers Market at Riverview Park. This event runs 10-3. There will be fresh produce, handcrafted soaps, gourmet foods, and handcrafted items.
Over in Cocoa Beach don’t forget to check out the Cocoa Beach Special Contra Dance at the Rec Center. From 7-1030pm there will be a live band and caller. They will teach you all the steps of each dance so no experience is necessary. Wear something comfortable and non-marking shoes. No partner is needed so this is an excellent opportunity to get out there and meet some locals.
On Sunday wind down with Beginner Yoga ABC’s. This will start at 1pm at the Yoga Garden in Melbourne. This is a 3-week series that offers the opportunity to learn yoga in a slow-paced and non-judgmental way. This class is literally for everyone, age, bodies, abilities. They will progressively build on each lesson starting with the basics of what to expect from a yoga class.
