Mims is tucked away at the northern end of Brevard County (between Titusville and New Smyrna) and the area was named after Casper Neil Mims. He arrived in the area in 1876 where he opened the first dry goods and grocery store in the community. The town began to grow when the railroad came to through in 1885. Mims developed into a citrus center when New York Firefighter Thomas F. Nevins began to buy and develop groves in the area. Nevins became a big shipper to the northern market. Local industries support Kennedy Space Center which is within a reasonable commuting distance to Mims. There are two elementary schools for this area with a population of a little over 7,000 folks. True country living can be found in the 19.8 square miles that makes up Mims.
